Type Locality and Naming

Along the Bazarly ravine, at the junction of the West and East Karatau ranges, Mangyshlak Peninsula. V.V. Mokrinin, 1947 (69, p. 31). Stratotype in the section of the Bazarli ravine. On the southern Ustyurt (383, table 4, p. 2) undifferentiated Bazarlin Fm and Sarydiirmen Fm suites were distinguished, which were renamed by A. into the Raukhan Fm.

Synonym: Bazarlinsky Suite, Базарлинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Rhythmic alternation of clays, siltstone (aleurolites), and sandstones, sometimes with sandy and sandy-argillaceous concretions. At the base, sandstone (0.7-8, sometimes up to 30 m), with lenses of conglomerate in places. Thickness is 90-120m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies transgressively on the Karadirmen Fm, transgressively passing onto the Triassic.

Upper contact

It is overlain by the Sarydiirmen Fm.

Regional extent

Mountainous part of Mangyshlak; wells in the southern Mangyshlak, Ustyurt and northern Turkmenistan.

Fossils

Contains ammonites - Parkinsonia cf. parkinsoni Sow., P. cf. neufensis Opp., P. cf. subarietis Wetz.; marine bivalve mollusks - Meleagrinella doneziana Boriss., M. echinata Smith., foraminifers Lenticulina erecta Ant., Haplophragmoides complanatus Mjatl.

It was attributed to the upper Bajocian-lower Bathonian (446); N.V. Beznosov (334) - to the upper Bajocian (334; 336; 445).
